I was born in London in 1774
and trained as a surveyor 
before buying a commission in the New South Wales corps. 
I arrived in Sydney in 1800 and was posted to Norfolk Island for six years.
 I returned to Sydney and started to acquire land and in 1808, 
I was appointed aide-de-camp to Major George Johnston 
who led the rum rebellion against Governor Bligh. 
I was summoned to London in 1810 to give evidence at the
 court martial of Johnston and on returning to Australia, 
I was given a large tract of land at prospect.
 I was appointed commandant of the new settlement at Bathurst
 and given another large grant of land on the Campbell River there,
 for my part in the expedition which found a route across 
the Blue Mountains - I am?
